Our Immigrant, 8th Great Grandfather, Hans Dietrich Casselman, acquired a Land Patent and settled here. A memorial plague was installed on the church grounds, the surnames of the Palatine Immigrants are written here; my immigrant ancestor surnames written here: Merckel and Caselman, their names can be read on the enlarged image below with the inhabitants of West Camp.
The Inscription:
Know O Traveler, within site of this hill on October 6, 1710, led by the Rev. Joshua Kochertal and the Rev. Johann Frederick Hager, there arrived on the east and west shores of Hudson's River nearly 300 families of refugees of the Palatine Region in Europe, who suffered many sorrows in the ravages of war, sickness, poverty and destitution, yet survived to settle these shores, sustained by their faith in the Lord and the sympathy of Queen Anne of England, whom they came to serve in the reduction of the pine forest for naval stores for her Majesty's Fleet. Do you wish to know more? Seek out their names on this tablet, on the pages of history their deeds.

Saltsman’s Hotel and Restaurant
"The Saltsman restaurant and inn dates to 1813 and was owned and operated by the Saltsman family of Ephrata until well into the 20th century. Johnann Wilhelm Cassleman, the first male Cassleman born in America and a resident of Stone Arabia most of his life married to Anna Margaretha Saltsman. Most Casslemans no longer lived in Stone Arabia or Eprhata when the Saltsmans started their business so it's unlikely any of our ancestors ate or stayed there." *written by a 'relative' who visited

The following are exerpts from findings on RootsWeb:
The old German spelling of the name was both Kasselmann and Cassellman. In America it was usually spelled Casselman or Castleman.___Names & dates from the original records of the Lutheran Church in Adelshofen, Germany, which begin in 1655. Adelshofen is located about 25- 35 miles SE of Heidelberg. Our cousin in Germany writes that the old church books from Adelshofen are in the Archives in Karlsruhe [west of Adelshofen]. The archives collected all the old original books, filmed them and placed them in their safe. Only the film is available to the public (Birth data was also published by Henry Z. Jones, Jr. (1985). The Palatine Families of New York. p. 432-437.)
